Frazier’s back at the Bool

Anakie speed machine Sunset Frazier will make his return to racing after four months on the sidelines in the Warrnambool Cup heats on Thursday evening.

Sunset Frazier sustained a tear to his back muscle in a trial. He last raced in the Phoenix for slot holders Total Container Solutions at the end of last year.

“He has had three trials back and has been trialing well,” trainer Jeff Britton said.

“But trials are just practise matches, Warrnambool Cup heats are the real stuff.”

Sunset Frazier has drawn box eight in race five (Warrnambool Cup heat four), which will jump at 6.09pm.

“Ideally I would like to have had a couple of races under his belt prior.”

Durning Sunset Frazier’s time on the sidelines, straws were taken. He has two females currently in pup – Darren and Michael Puleio’s American Queen, who is a daughter of elite producer Nicki Fields and Aaron Debattista’s Missile Dani.

“David Hobby (Sunset Frazier’s owner and breeder) never advertised him at stud, and we are happy with the females he has got so far,” Jeff Britton said.

“We stopped taking straws so he can keep his mind on racing now.”

Sunset Frazier finds himself up against Jason Thompson’s Field Day who has drawn box two in the same heat.

“We will see what happens at Warrnambool and give him a couple more horseshoe runs before we get him back to the circle,” Britton said.

Sunset Frazier (1) breaks Fernando Bale’s second split record in a Melbourne Cup heat.

In the lead up to last year’s Melbourne Cup, Sunset Frazier broke Fernando Bale’s long standing (2015) second split record of 18.36 seconds. He lowered it to 18.35 seconds (29 seconds overall) with a performance that has some racing experts labelling it as the most complete performance they have ever seen.

Sunset Frazier unfortunately took a tumble in the Melbourne Cup but backed up a month later in the Phoenix where he finished fifth.
