Anthony Azzopardi could be forgiven for getting a sense of DeJa’Vu each time he looks down at Hotel Whisky One, having trained and stands at stud, his sire, Whiskey Riot.

Hotel Whisky One recorded the fastest first sectional but the third fastest qualifying time over the 485-metre trip behind Paw Utility and Amron Tiger in the Horsham Cup heats.

“I thought his run in the heat was brilliant,” trainer Anthony Azzopardi said.

“His first sectionals make me look good and honestly; he is probably the perfect dog.”

“He doesn’t waste any energy; he travels well, and he is great in the kennels – his father was the same and they make my job a lot easier.”

Hotel Whisky One wins his Horsham Cup heat from box one in a time of 26.93 seconds.

Friday night, Hotel Whisky One will jump from box five in the Group 2 Horsham Cup.

“I am pretty happy where he is drawn in the Cup,” Azzopardi said.

“I don’t think there is much speed around him, and I think he should find the front like he usually does.”

“Hotel Whisky One gets the 525(metres) at The Meadows, but he probably needs a harder track rather than a softer one.”

“The 450’s and 480’s I don’t feel there are any problems at all for him.”

Anthony Azzopardi won the Horsham Cup in 2017 with Zambora Brockie.
