Tim Zoo has come from the clouds to run down kennel mates Flying Zulu and Excavation in the Group 1 Temlee kicking off what could be another record-breaking year for Team Thompson.
Punters missed the mark pre-race, ranking Tim Zoo one of the outsiders of the invitational field after drawing out wide – only Queenslander Daysea’s Rory was longer odds.
“When we were loading the dogs up, Jason said there may be a smoky and that he had a feeling about Tom Zoo,” Seona Thompson said.
“My husband is a genius, but he may have gone next level after that.”
Tim Zoo (7) comes from nowhere to win the Group 1 Temlee in a time of 29.82 seconds.
The Trifecta in tonight’s Group 1 Temlee was the second Thompson Trifecta of their training careers.
“We Trifectaed the Warrnambool Cup many years ago but to Trifecta this is something else,” Thompson said.
This is also Team Thompson’s sixth Temlee victory.
Tim Zoo is a son of Aussie Infrared and Double Supreme and is now a winner of 22 races from 45 starts.
Tim Zoo is no stranger to success in Australian Cup Carnivals, having won the Australian Cup last year.
Thompson’s success didn’t stop with the Temlee tonight, Reaper won a heat of the Australian Cup in race two.
Reaper was cheered on by part owner and Collingwood coach Craig McRae.
