The greyhound community is saddened by the recent passing of Peter Wishart.
He passed away last Friday aged 86.
He trained greyhounds for over 50 years spanning from the 1960’s to 2018.
The best greyhound he had was Dedication who started as one of the favourites in the 1984 Melbourne Cup, which was won by Rustic Venture. He also had success with the versatile Lilley Criminal.
He was a long time member of the Sandown Greyhound Racing Club as well as the Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association. He was also a life member at Healesville and one of the driving forces behind the club before it began racing.
He was close friends with the late Geoff Dawson, Mick Gibilisco, Eddie Caruana, John Stephens and in particular Norm McCullagh and Des Fegan.
Wishart is also remembered as a very good footballer for Mitcham, a roof tiler and a good bloke who was never short of a story or an opinion.
Funeral information is yet to be confirmed.
