Lisa and Raya Star 1 – Keith 0

Byline aside, I think anyone reading this article who knows me in the slightest will be able to pick this as a story I have written.

Last Friday night, Lisa Hellmuth and Raya Star partnered together in a heat of the TRFM Sale Cup to prove that women know what is best.

The fact that Raya Star was in a TRFM Sale Cup heat was a bit of a sneaky masterstroke on Lisa’s behalf.

“Keith never really thought that she was going to be a super star,” Lisa told Jason Adams and George Farrugia on RSN’s Grey Areas today.

“Early on in her career, she wasn’t that quick.”

“She never really begun that well over the 500 (metres) and never had any luck over the 600 (metres) because she kept getting into trouble at the start.”

“When it came to the Sale Cup heats, I wanted to put her in. Keith said she wasn’t good enough to put in, so I put her in anyway.”

Raya Star went into the TRFM Sale Cup heats unbeaten in her past two starts.

The daughter of Aussie Infrared and Start A Riot jumped from box four in a field which was made up of multiple Group 1 contenders.

Raya Star (4) takes out the opening heat of the TRFM Sale Cup.

Raya Star was the third fastest qualifier for the TRFM Sale Cup behind Canya All Class who broke the 640 metre Sale track record in his heat win.

“I was quite shocked when she won because she was up against the likes of Drill Sergeant and Ethanol Volume,” Lisa said.

“She is pretty gutsy – she doesn’t like to give up.”

In another blow to Keith’s confidence, he was strategically tasked with selecting Raya Star’s box in the TRFM Sale Cup final.”

“I was horrified to see that he picked box six.”

But like all good wives who time after time prove their husbands wrong, Lisa is allowing Keith to come along to the Sale Cup on Boxing Day to watch Raya Star compete in her first Group 1.
