Dailly quinella as Kai zips to Hume Cup win

Champion Anakie trainer Tom Dailly trained the quinella of Saturday night’s group 1 Hume Cup, as Zipping Kai held off kennelmate Ethanol Volume in an action-packed edition of the 600-metre contest.

From box two, Zipping Kai’s early speed proved the difference, outpacing Ethanol Volume who jumped from box one, while West Star carted across from box seven to sit on the speed.

Race favourite Raider’s Guide then suffered interference with Buddy Monelli into the second turn, allowing the trio in front to break away.

Ethanol Volume overtook West Star and put some pressure on Zipping Kai around the final bend, but the Zack Monelli bitch showed her strength late to claim her first win at the elite level.

Prior to Saturday night, the two-and-a-half-year-old had won just $38,000 in prizemoney. The Hume Cup’s top prize of $75,000 took her career earnings beyond $100,000 with the triumph.
