Sportsbet Topgun fields announced

The Topgun panel have made their decision on the top eight sprinters and stayers with the fields released on Sky 1 this morning.

It is no surprise that Team Thompson has a big hand in this year’s Topgun with Excavation, Explicit and Flying Zulu. Tim Zoo is the first reserve.

Explicit was outstanding last night at Sandown Park in a Melbourne Cup prelude, breaking the magical 29 second mark – stopping the clock in 28.969 and has earnt favouritism pre box draw in the Topgun.

Four Million Dollar Chase contenders got a guernsey into the Topgun, including winner Blue Kermaro for Josh Formosa.

Hector Fawley finds himself in the field after an impressive 12 months. He kicked off the Dream Chasers Festival last year winning the Hume Cup which was run on Topgun night.

Interstate representation is on the lower end with four greyhounds outside of Victoria making up the two invitational fields. This includes Good Odds Cobber, who is currently in the care of Glenn Rounds.

Last years Topgun Stayers winner Ritza Piper and Valpolicella are the only greyhounds who have backed up consecutive years in the Topgun Stayers.

Plenty of interest surrounds Exploded and Ella’s Babe who have had a number of duels leading up to next Saturday nights Group 1 event.

The box draw for the Topgun and Topgun Stayers will be conducted on Monday 4 November.

The Sportsbet Dream Chasers Festival holds over $3.5millon in prize money. The Meadows and Sandown Park play host to the block buster events.

Night one kicks off with the Sportsbet Topgun, Topgun Stayers and Hume Cup at The Meadows on Saturday 9 November.  Heats of the Hume Cup and the Group 3 Silver Bullet will be run on Monday night at The Meadows.
