Scene set for wide open Healesville Cup

After an entertaining set of Sportsbet Healesville Cup heats on Sunday, we’re set for an open final with five runners opening at single figure quotes with Sportsbet.

Conditions were very blustery on the day which didn’t seem to have the expected impact on times with all finalists setting very similar numbers.

Victorian Straight Track Champion Zipping Gryllis was the fastest heat winner. Aston Fantastic has drawn box 1 and has opened favourite despite being beaten by Zipping Gryllis and progressing as one of the two fastest runners-up.

Aside from Blue Blood, the other seven finalists were only separated by 0.07 of a second, which equates to about a length. It’s safe to say there’s not much between them.

An addition to the coverage of Sunday’s heats was high quality head on vision. See it following each of the race replays below – a highly valuable tool when assessing next Sunday’s final.

Heat 1: Zipping Gryllis (8) defeats Aston Fantastic (2) in 18.88

Heat 5: Spot Fox (8) defeats Express Ethics (4) in 18.90

Heat 4: Serial Sticker (6) remains undefeated in 18.92

Heat 3: Mile A Minute (7) wins in 18.94

Heat 6: Valhalla (1) does it for Queensland in 18.96

Heat 2: Blue Blood (8) wins in 19.10

Plenty of heart in the sport

Leon Lacy’s heart stopped behind the boxes and if it wasn’t for the quick actions from track staff, stewards and his fellow trainers, Leon quite simply wouldn’t be here today.
