Hector Fawley back in work

One of Australia’s most exciting greyhounds Hector Fawley was a notable omission from feature events at Sandown Park and Albion Park last week but his return isn’t too far away.

He’s been sidelined since he was scratched out of the Cyndie’s Magic final at Albion Park on June 6. It was due to inflammation that suggested he had injured himself at home, however after multiple x-rays that didn’t seem to be the case.

“When I checked him I thought it was his metacarpal that was the issue, but we think it might have been a spider bite. He had two lots of x-rays, which produced nothing,” said co-trainer Ian Cockerell.

“There’s nothing pressing for him to target so we’ll take our time and focus on the latter part of the year.”

The tail end of the year could be the last hurrah for Hector Fawley. He’ll turn four years old a week before Christmas but there’s already immense demand for his stud services.

“My phone hasn’t stopped ringing. We’ve got a long list of breeders in line that are keen to use him,” Cockerell said.

Hector Fawley, or ‘Stanley’ as he’s known at home, has broken ‘34’ at Sandown Park five times and is the third fastest ever over the 595m (33.643) behind track record holder Collinda Patty (33.562) and Dyna Double One (33.630).

He holds the back split record at 22.77 ahead of Collinda Patty (22.81), Dyna Patty (22.84) and Dyna Double One (22.85).

He also holds the (600m) back split record at The Meadows at 21.53 ahead of Extreme Magic (21.58), Dyna Double One (21.62) and Paua To Burn (21.63).

Ethanol Water set the fastest time of the year over 595m (33.789) in her heat of the McKenna Memorial last Thursday. She and her brother Ethanol Volume are at the top of the market for the G2 McKenna Memorial at Sandown Park this Thursday.
