Warrnambool BMX Club landed a $3,000 windfall in the Warrnambool Community Club Challenge night at Wannon Park on 28 September.
Local sporting and community clubs were invited to register to be part of the night for the chance to win cash prizes, with the criteria being they had at least six representatives from their club on course.
The community clubs were drawn out early in the night, with a representative from each of those clubs club lifting a cloth to reveal the dog number they’d be cheering home in Race 10, the Sportsbet Community Cup, for their chance to win a share in $8,000 cash.
A vacant number five box saw seven of the groups allocated a greyhound in the event. No club went away empty handed, with 2nd place (Warrnambool 4WD Club) taking away $2,000, 3rd place (Nirranda Football Netball Club) $1,000 and $500 going to each of the remaining place getters.
With ex-Hawk AFL great Robert DiPierdomenico on course, the community spirit was well and truly alive and a great time was had by all.
Warrnambool BMX Club were delighted when their greyhound, superstar sprinter Quinlan Bale, was victorious.
