Let the ‘Chase’ begin

Since its inception in 2018, no Victorian sprinter has won the Million Dollar Chase.

But our chase to ultimately provide an ‘instant millionaire’ – in the second MDC edition for 2022 – starts at Temora on Wednesday with two regional heats over 457 metres.

And, on numbers alone, the Vics have an excellent chance of a strong presence in the Temora regional final six days later.

We have five of the seven runners in Heat 1 (Race 7, 5.32pm) and four of seven in Heat 2 (Race 8, 5.54pm).

However, it’s just not weight of numbers – there’s much more than a sprinkling of class among our aspirants ‘south of the border’.

In Heat 1, we’re represented by G1 Adelaide Cup winner Do It (Box 4) – Jeff Britton; G1 Maturity Classic finalist Plaintiff (Box 6) – Jason Thompson; G3 Ladies Bracelet finalist McKeon Bale (Box 1) and Throssell Bale (Box 3) – Daniel Gibbons; and G1 Melbourne Cup finalist Jepara (Box 2) – Angela Langton.

And, in Heat 2, G1 Brisbane Cup winner Equalizer (pictured) (Box 7) – Jason Thompson; G2 Warrnambool Cup finalist Mepunga Mustang (Box 8) – Jeff Britton; and G1 Maturity Classic finalist Kelsey Bale (Box 5) and G2 Geelong Gold Cup finalist Winnington Bale (Box 6) – Daniel Gibbons.

Here are TAB’s fixed odds on the Victorians:

Heat 1 – $2.80 Plaintiff, $3.70 Do It, $4.60 McKeon Bale, $4.80 Jepara, $26 Throssell Bale.

Heat 2 – $3 Equalizer, $3.50 Mepunga Mustang, $5.50 Kelsey Bale, $23 Winnington Bale.

WATCH: EQUALIZER (B7) wins at The Meadows, prior to a second G1 Brisbane Cup campaign, on June 11.
