Dogs to follow

The 2022 GRV Vic Bred Pink Diamond series boasts $1.175 million in prizemoney and will culminate in 12 action-packed Group Listed finals on Friday night at Ballarat.

Form expert Dale Code has identified three greyhounds to keep an eye out for on Friday night. You may even want to add them to your Blackbook account.

CARDIGAN GIRL (Race 1 Box 7)
Breeding:
Oct’ 20 Hasten Slowly x Art Noveau
Breeder: Champagne Syndicate
Trainer: Angela Langton, Anakie
Record: 2 starts 1-0-1

Dale says: Has had two runs over the 400m but should develop into a nice 450m+ greyhound in time. Hasn’t shown much speed out of the boxes in her two runs so far, but once balanced she possesses excellent acceleration. Cardigan Girl has a bright future ahead of her and she will win a lot of races.”

Best traits: Hard chaser; strong run-home sectionals
Ideal box: Box 8
Ideal distance: 450m+

Chances in Friday night’s $42,840 Pink Diamond Maiden Short Course Final (390m):
Cardigan Girl might get burnt off early but if she stays out of trouble she could run over the top of them late. Jelly Bean Jojo is the one to beat.”

GOT NO BRO (Race 4 Box 4)
Breeding: Feb ’20 My Bro Fabio x Fair Of Face
Breeder: Amstel Syndicate
Trainer: Peter Craig, Langwarrin
Record: 20 starts 5-5-2

Dale says: “Litter brother to Wow She’s Fast who has been slowly building up in distance and is racing with plenty of confidence. Can settle on the speed or come from off the pace to win, depending on the quality of his opposition. A huge threat on the provincial circuit going forward.”

Best traits: Big mid-race motor
Ideal box: Box 1
Ideal distance: 600-650m

Chances in Friday’s $42,840 Pink Diamond Rookie Distance Final (660m):
Got No Bro appears to have been set for this series, which could prove a training masterstroke. Looks to be peaking at the right time and is definitely a strong chance of winning this final.”

FLYING PIE (Race 9 Box 2)
Breeding:
Jul ’20 Fabregas x Yielding
Breeder: Renee New, Wendouree
Trainer: Brad Sands, Pakenham
Record: 8 starts 4-3-0

Dale says: “Burst on the scene with a hat-trick of wins at Healesville in blistering time including two best-of-meeting performances. Flying Pie has only had the eight starts but looks a brilliant short-course sprinter in the making. Boasts pure speed and has the potential to win a Healesville Cup.”

Best traits: Tough chaser; brilliant speed
Ideal draw: Box 1
Ideal distance: 350m

Chances in Friday’s $42,840 Pink Diamond Rookie Short Course Final (390m):
Plaintiff deserves to be favourite but he is drawn awkwardly, so I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Flying Pie gets up. I think he’s a huge chance.”
