Can a ‘Rocket’ sink a ‘Sub’? Or will an ‘Angel’ be in seventh heaven?
That’s the conundrum for punters as three provincial stars contest a Hugh Emmerson Memorial heat – Race 5, 8.28pm – at Geelong tonight.
The Watchdog’s Must-Watch race between Rocket Boy (29 from 56 – 3 of past 4) v Carry On Angel (17 from 56 – 5 of past 8) v Russian Sub (11 from 43) is a real poser!
The expert form analyst favours Rocket Boy, who is 5 from 7 Box 3. However, Carry On Angel was 3rd to Tiggerlong Tonk in the G1 Harrison-Dawson and Russian Sub was 3rd in the Wagga Gold Cup Consolation.
Another matchup on this fixture that may have bettors in a quandary is Lots Of Chatter (28 from 78 – 5 of past 9) v Hadouken (9 from 31), also in an Emmerson Memorial heat – Race 4, 8.05pm. And The Watchdog tips Hadouken to talk the talk!
Lots Of Chatter was a G2 Cranbourne Cup finalist, while Hadouken was a G3 Launching Pad finalist.
Additionally, G1 Maturity Classic runner-up Fernando Mick (10 from 38) appears to have a class edge on his rivals in another Emmerson Memorial heat – Race 6, 8.47pm.
And rising star Six Speed Manual (3 from 4), who has commenced his career in overdrive, should ‘push the pedal to the metal’ in Race 10, 10.08pm.
Meanwhile, several topliners showcase today’s Bendigo meeting. None more so than the resuming True Collinda (4 from 8) in Race 4, 3.49pm.
The Jason Thompson-trained potential star is contesting her first start since April 27.
And a couple of tantalising tussles will whet punters’ appetites, starting with Weblec Eagle (13 from 50) v Aston Oriental (6 from 18) in Race 7, 4.57pm.
Weblec Eagle won last year’s G1 Sale Cup and was a G1 Rookie Rebel finalist, while Aston Oriental – a litter sister of superstar Aston Rupee, who smashed Sandown Park’s 515m track record last night – is a serious middle-distance prospect. She’s also trained by Thompson.
And finally, a ‘bubbly’ clash between Typhoon Sammy (13 from 20 – 3 from 3 Box 1) v Soda Prince (11 from 28 – 3 of past 5) – Race 9, 5.37pm. You can guarantee it won’t be a ‘fizzer’!
Ex-NSW flier Typhoon Sammy (6 of past 7) is 2 from 2 since joining the Thompson camp, while Soda Prince was a Pink Diamond Rookie Short Course finalist.
