MATCH RACE 1, 6.44pm

CAPTAIN DYNAMITE $5.50 V FERNANDO FRANK $1.15

The Watchdog says: “Had this match-up been 12 months ago, Captain Dynamite would have been a short-priced favourite, but unfortunately he has been riddled with injuries and unless Fernando Frank makes a big mistake, ‘Frank’ should be scoring with ease. The ‘Captain’ qualified with a 34.476sec run last week, whilst ‘Frank’ carved out a scorching 34.36sec when running second under race conditions on the same day. The top elect should pounce on the early lead, and it should be a stress free ride for punters.”

Prediction: Fernando Frank by 5 lengths in 34.35sec

MATCH RACE 2, 6.53pm

RUN LIKE JESS $1.45 V SHADOW MIST $2.70

The Watchdog says: “Run Like Jess has regained some much needed confidence in recent weeks and he is expected to lead throughout today. Shadow Mist would have to lead to win this match up and he would struggle to break 9.10sec to the first marker these days, whilst ‘Jess’ normally breaks 9 seconds while still in first gear. With five wins from 13 attempts here and a scorching 34.34sec display last week, Run Like Jess appears to be well over the odds at $1.45 in the match race market.”

Prediction: Run Like Jess by 3 lengths in 34.40sec

MATCH RACE 3, 7.01pm

ZAC’S ENTITY $2.45 V COLLINDA PATTY $1.55

The Watchdog says: “Easily the most exciting match up of the day with two of the sport’s hottest prospects duking it out. Zac’s Entity burst onto the scene with a breathtaking 29.25sec debut win at Sandown and he then scorched the sand with a 34.18sec trial run here. That type of run would see him go close in anything he contests; however he comes up against the recent Sandown Park 595m record breaker in Collinda Patty, who trialled in a magical 34.11sec here last week. She carved out 9.02sec to the first marker in her record run at Sandown Park and a repeat of that would see her cross and lead with ease. With the potential to break another track record, it’s hard to see her getting reeled in.”

Prediction: Collinda Patty by 2 lengths in 34.10sec

MATCH RACE 4, 7.13pm

MEPUNGA WARRIOR $1.75 V GYPSY WYONG $2.05

The Watchdog says: “Another cracking match up with two of the state’s most in form chasers strutting their stuff, and the box draw is going to play a major role. Mepunga Warrior has been enormous in his past three wins here and he appears to be getting stronger with every go around. Gypsy Wyong is three from three here and her PB isn’t too far away from ‘Warrior’s’, however she is likely to settle just behind him in the early stages and, with a sub 34.25sec run on the cards, she will have trouble reeling him in.

Prediction: Mepunga Warrior by 1.5 lengths in 34.20sec

Final word:
“This event is absolutely stacked with talent and there are four serious overall winning chances. Collinda Patty and Mepunga Warrior are expected to lead their respective heats and that should see them gain a clear run throughout. Both runners have scored some electrifying wins in recent weeks, however ‘Patty’ has track record potential, so she has a slight edge over the ‘Warrior’. Run Like Jess and Fernando Frank appear to be the best bets in the head-to-head match ups. Both should dictate throughout and win their respective heats, however I don’t think they can match the times of the more fancied runners in the overall market.”

Tips:
6 Collinda Patty
7 Mepunga Warrior
5 Zac’s Entity
8 Gypsy Wyong

The Watchdog’s suggested $20 spend:

$20 Head-to-Head Multi
Fernando Frank to defeat Captain Dynamite /
Run Like Jess to defeat Shadow Mist /
Collinda Patty to defeat Zac’s Entity /
Mepunga Warrior to defeat Gypsy Wyong
Multi price: $4.07
