A ‘Fantastic Four’ meet in a Grade 5 final (400m) at Warragul tonight. But who will emerge a ‘superhero’?
The ‘marvels’ are Blackpool Flash (25 from 47 – 7 of past 10) v Gunai Rebel (11 from 27) v Made Me Blind (16 from 40) v Paua Of Janie (6 from 7).
Expert form analyst The Watchdog has tipped Blackpool Flash (4 from 5 Box 1) – winner G3 Birthday Cup and Healesville Derby – on top.
Exciting prospects Hugo (7 from 24 – 3 from 6 Trk/Dst) v Big Fonzie (3 from 6 – 3 of past 4) provide the prologue on the program. But will it be ‘happy days’ for Big Fonzie, who is a younger half-brother of G1 stars Fernando Bluey and Fernando Cazz?
And well-bred Security Man (4 of past 6) should ‘throw away the key’ on his rivals.
Meanwhile, two magical matchups highlight this afternoon’s Horsham fixture.
Track specialist Banjo Bert (7 from 20 – 6 from 14 Trk/Dst) v evergreen Kraken Tex (20 from 104 – 15 from 58 Trk/Dst) will be a ‘kraken’ clash if you’ll excuse the pun. So, who will play ‘second fiddle’?
G2 Geelong Gold Cup winner Weblec Jet (11 from 33) v Launching Pad Consolation finalist People Get Ready (7 from 21) will also command plenty of punting interest.
And at Healesville today, keep a ‘look out’ for Rearview Mirror (5 from 18 – 4 from 6 Trk/Dst), along with Hill Top Jonah (8 from 21) – a litter brother of Koblenz – v You Fugitive (11 from 29 – 5 of past 9).

The Watchdog says ?: BLACKPOOL FLASH (1) just continues to chalk up wins for fun and he appears drawn to score again. He had no trouble crossing the field from out wide in his brilliant 22.63sec heat win, so from the inside draw he should be able to pounce on the early lead again and they will have to go sub 22.50sec to reel him in. PAUA OF JANIE (7) has won six of seven in devastating fashion, and she is the most gifted speedster in the event. Although beaten last week, she was far from disgraced as she did miss the kick a little and had to work through the field in the initial stages. If she can step on terms, she has the pace to settle outside of the top elect and she will pour on the pressure throughout the journey. GUNAI REBEL (2) is a classy provincial speedster who is armed with blistering pace soon after box rise. I do not think she can topple the ‘Flash,’ but she should be able to follow him through and figure in the finish. MADE ME BLIND (4) is the interesting runner. The box draw has not done her any favours, but she was the fastest heat winner in an electrifying 22.41sec. The start will be crucial for her, if she can step cleanly then she is right in the mix, however if she hesitates slightly, she may get crowded and will then be giving some smart chasers a big head start. Fingers crossed all the ‘big guns’ can step cleanly and gain a clear passage throughout. If that happens, we could see a sub 22.50sec run.
