GRV’s inaugural Pink Diamond series continues at Shepparton and Geelong today.

Both clubs will host two maiden semi-finals + 10 heats over a range of class and distances for Victorian-bred dogs only, which is virtually identical to the programs of races held at Warragul and Ballarat yesterday.  Read more

First and second placegetters in all 48 Pink Diamond races held yesterday and today earn their way into the bumper Pink Diamond Grand Finale at Bendigo next Friday (18 June) where a total of 12 finals will be held to recognise the cream of Victoria’s breeding stock.

The Watchdog says ?: This is the last chance to qualify for next week’s rich Champion Sprinter Final and we have a stacked line-up engaged. CATCH THE THIEF (1) has turned in some brilliant performances in recent months and he lit up this track two runs back with a scintillating 25.44sec win. His record from box one is just solid, so with the abundance of pace on his outside he cannot afford to make a mistake early on. HAZEY ROY (4) has been one of the state’s most consistent provincial chasers in recent months and he deserves to make a final of the calibre. He is expected to settle in the top two and he is capable of getting down to around the 25.70sec mark, which would see him figure prominently. JEPARA (2) has a good record this track/distance and he showed everyone he is at his best when rolling all star Christo Bale at The Meadows last week. He should get a nice run through early behind the ‘Thief’ and we all know he is very strong in the run home. Litter and kennelmates CARRY ON STAR (5) and CARRY ON ANGEL (7) were both placed at Group 1 level recently and, although better suited to a longer journey, they can make a big impact tonight if one of them happens to spear the lids.

The Watchdog says ? : TINGLE (1) showed a lot of improvement last time, and she is drawn to get every chance, so a top three finish looks good. UNTAPPED ABILITY (1) was dominant in his debut win, and he appears to have a fair bit on his rivals today. MANIA (1) scrapes the paint and its hard to see her missing a place, whilst FIVE STAR (1) is the new staying king and he should prove too good in his heat of the Pink Diamond Stayers.

The Watchdog says ? : He has been one of the state’s premier provincial speedsters for a while now and he returned to his best with a dynamic 25.68sec Warragul win two runs back. ‘Craig’ likes to stay wide in his races, and he has a blistering turn of foot soon after box rise, so with an even getaway he should be able to assume control soon after the start and score.

The Watchdog says ? : LUNAR STAR (5) returned to form with a dominant 34.52sec Meadows win and she is suited by the rise in distance, so with a little luck early she should prove too strong. TOM THE CHEAP (1) can cause trouble in his races, so if there is some bunching and mixing up front, the strong CELL BLOCK TANGO (8) comes into calculations. She has turned in two strong performances since resuming and she will now be at peak fitness and can cause an upset.
