All-stars to clash as Sandown hits fever pitch

Tonight’s $145,000 Group 1 Harrison-Dawson Final (515m), to run at 8.34pm, might be the best race we witness this year.

Six of the eight finalists are arguably among the top 10 greyhounds in Australia right now, with The Watchdog settling on Australian Cup runner-up Fernando Bluey as his top selection.

Four heats were run last week with Shima Shine (29.00sec), Tiggerlong Tonk (29.10sec), Fire Legend (29.49sec) & Catch The Thief (29.52sec) victorious.

With Sandown to also host the $145,000 G1 Sapphire Crown Final (515m) at 7.49pm, along with four heats of the G1 RSN Sandown Cup (715m), you won’t want to miss a moment.

Enjoy comprehensive coverage from Sandown Park on Sky Racing Active or via The Watchdog app from just before 6pm.

MUST-WATCH RACE: G1 Harrison-Dawson Group 1 Final

SHIMA SHINE ? LAKEVIEW WALTER ? EQUALIZER ? CATCH THE THIEF ? FERNANDO BLUEY ?  TIGGERLONG TONK

? Sandown Park ? Race 8 ? 515m 8:34pm

Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/638917785/race/8

The Watchdog says ? : What a Final and we must look at SHIMA SHINE (2) first. The champ was breathtaking when winning his heat last week in a scintillating 29.00sec and if he steps away, he will take a power of beating. However, we all know he can be a little hit or miss early and with the abundance of pace out wide, he could find himself in a little bit of bother. TIGGERLONG TONK (8) is airborne at present and after a 29.10sec heat win, he is one of the major players. With FERNANDO BLUEY (7) expected to cross and lead, the two runners drawn out wide should come across together and dictate terms for most of the race. LAKEVIEW WALTER (3) is already a Group 1 winner. He has been enormous in recent weeks and, with a clean getaway, he can make his presence felt. The most interesting runner has to be EQUALIZER (4), whose two Meadows wins in April had to be seen to be believed. With some bunching at the first bend tonight, he may get a dream run through and cause an upset. It should be a keenly contested affair throughout and I cannot wait to see if unfold.

Selections:  7 – 8 – 4 – 3

The Watchdog says ? : He was a little costly at The Meadows on Saturday, but I am willing to forgive him. This race features a lot of early speed and, with the leaders expected to bunch behind CANYA CRUISE (1), he should be able to pick off several of them late. At $3.80 to place he appears great value.

The Watchdog says ? : ZACK MONELLI (1) appears to be one of the best bets you will ever see, and he should lead throughout. JUNK FOOD JUNKIE (2) is ultra-consistent and will get a dream run through behind the red early, with a top three finish looking likely. BRUTE (1) won at Sandown from this draw in quick time recently, and with some luck at the first bend he should hit the scoreboard.

Multi price: $3.38

? $3 Place – EQUALIZER
? Sandown Park ? Race 8 ? Box 4 ?515m ⏱ 8:34pm              ***Must Watch Race***
TAB fixed odds: $2.80 Place
Form
?  https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/638917785/race/8

The Watchdog says ? : He always needs a little bit of luck to go his way, but he showed at The Meadows in April that he can produce last to first performances against elite company. There is a stack of early speed in the red and out wide and I expect there will be some shuffling at the first bend, so he should be able to rail through and head to the back straight in the top five. He is a powerful type and, if close enough, he should sneak into the top three at value.

? $1 Win – LOTS OF CHATTER
? $1 Win – GYPSY YANKEE
? Sandown Park ? Race 9 ? Box 5 & 7 ?515m ⏱ 8:55pm
TAB fixed odds: $13 Win (Lots Of Chatter)

TAB fixed odds: $4.80 Win (Gypsy Yankee)
Form
?  https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/638917785/race/9

The Watchdog says ? : Quite an open race and there appears to be a lot of value. GYPSY YANKEE (7) has a tremendous record this track/distance and he should get a great run across from the speedy RUN BABA RUN (6) early. He is a different chaser when in the clear and he looks very well placed in this event. LOTS OF CHATTER (5) represents enormous value at $13. He was brilliant in his Harrison-Dawson heat last week and he is hitting the line a lot better these days. He will need an ounce of luck early but at that price he is worth the risk.
