Australian Cup night coverage delivers in spades

The third season of ‘Thrill of the Chase’ drew to an epic conclusion on Saturday night, with live, on-track coverage of an unforgettable Australian Cup.

Dramatic vision of Tommy Shelby and Fernando Bluey going neck-and-neck to the finish line in the $429,000 final was showcased to a free-to-air audience, along with a post-race interview with trainer Steve Withers, who has travelled the countryside over the past eight months in the search for a major feature like this.

WATCH: Catch all the emotion around the two Group 1s on Australian Cup night, a special on the Whelan family, Roz Russell in Lou’s Lounge and the announcement for a new million dollar race called The Phoenix.

We also caught up with an emotional Paul Bartolo, caretaker trainer of Fanta Bale Super Stayers winner Stanley Road, and then there was the announcement of ‘The Phoenix’, a million dollar race of a different kind that is set to propel greyhound racing to a world-wide audience.

And to round out the show, we welcomed Roz Russell to Lou’s Lounge to hear her touching story on how greyhound racing has changed her life for the better, and we visited the Whelan family to take a close look at their impressive operation in the small Gippsland town of Metung.
