Molly ready to Blaze again at The Meadows

Veteran trainer Ashley McDowall is wary about the chances of unbeaten youngster Molly Blazer continuing the perfect start to her career at The Meadows on Saturday night.

Molly Blazer, a daughter of Mepunga Blazer and Mepunga Rosie, bred by McDowall’s great mate and GRV Hall of Fame member Barry Smith, has created a buzz in winning her first two starts at her home track of Warrnambool.

“We’re more than happy with her. We’re over the moon,” said McDowall, who’s based at Nullawarre.

“She’s started off good but she’s stepping up to the big time at The Meadows and I’m not too sure how she will handle it.

“I’m not getting carried away but looking forward I think we’ve got something that goes okay.

“Barry (Smith) picked her out for me and we bought her at three months of age. Barry and I have been best mates for 50-plus years and I think he’s looked after me pretty well with her!

“We only bought the one but the whole litter has been very good. Enter The Son won at The Meadows today (Wednesday) in 29.89s.”

Molly Blazer will add plenty of early interest to The Meadows card when she chases her third straight win, exiting box one in the second event to jump at 6.59pm.

However, McDowall has cautioned that the rails alley might not be ideal.

“I’m not overly keen on box one because she’s never been in the boxes more than 30-odd seconds so far,” warned McDowall.

“She is very strong and I think she should run out the 525m. In her two runs at Warrnambool she’s come home very strongly.

“But if she misses the start I think she could be in strife on the first turn. It’s going to be a big test for her and I’ll be happy if she runs a place, put it that way.

“She’s only a baby so we’ll see how she goes on Saturday night and just take it one run at a time but we’re always striving to get a Melbourne dog and that’s what we hope she’ll be.”
