Carrum Downs trainer Matthew Dewan and his father, Brendan, have been synonymous with the ‘Dewana’ moniker for more than two decades.
And the successful partnership is now rolling on with lightly raced speedster Dewana Success, who is engaged at Cranbourne tonight.
Dewana Success (Box 2) is not only expert form analyst The Watchdog’s ‘Best Bet’ on the fixture. But he’s also been a market mover ($2.60F) in TAB fixed odds betting for Race 5 at 8.11pm.
However, Dewan says the last 20 metres or so of the 520-metre event will test Dewana Success.
“He’s got a big heart but not the biggest motor,” Dewan said. “I think he’ll need to be around 4-5 lengths in front going down the back straight to win.”
Dewana Success (Oct ’17 Fabregas x Dewana Sienna) is dropping in class, having won at Sandown (29.94sec) and been placed twice at The Meadows at his past seven starts.
But Dewan says the race is harder than what most punters think with chances also given to Tekki Nibbles (Box 3), Rapid Response (Box 4), Fine Tactics (Box 7) and Sensory (Box 8).
“The things in his favour are that he’s a good beginner and a chaser who gives 100 per cent, and he also has a really relaxed temperament,” Dewan added.
In all, Dewana Success has only raced on 12 occasions for two wins, two seconds and one third.
Dewan combines his greyhound racing passion with his role as corporate owner and director of O’Brien Real Estate in Cranbourne.
He also operates a 5.5-acre greyhound training complex in Carrum Downs and is currently in the process of extending a straight track to 400 metres.
