Star litter brothers Simon Told Helen and Who Told Stevie (pictured) have been scratched from tonight’s heats of the Group 1 TAB Australian Cup (525m) at The Meadows.
‘All In’ betting on the Australian Cup was briefly suspended this morning as bookies adjusted the market, but with a plethora of superstars competing across the eight heats there is sure to be plenty of value for punters wanting to get their bets on early.
AUSTRALIAN CUP ‘ALL IN’ MARKET
Trainer David Burnett said that despite the Australian Cup being a race every trainer aspires to win, the decision to scratch the pair was an easy one.
“In both cases it’s just a precautionary measure because neither of them are their normal selves at the moment. They’re both sound, and I could race them tonight, but I’m not happy with where they are at right now,” Burnett said.
“Who Told Stevie was injured at Wentworth Park a few weeks ago and Simon Told Helen copped interference at The Meadows last week in the Temlee.”
“By resting them now I’m confident they’ll be firing on all cylinders again in a few weeks, and I always think about the long term first and foremost with all of my greyhounds.”
Next weekend’s TAB Australian Cup Final boasts an elevated first prize of $300,000, with Shima Shine the $5.00 favourite to take out the series.
Meanwhile, three heats of the Group 1 Fanta Bale Super Stayers (725m) will also be held at The Meadows this evening, with Here’s Tears and Just Terms joint favourites at $4.00 to win the final.
