Caretaker trainer Anthony Azzopardi secured his second Group 1 Zoom Top (725m) when NSW idol Just Terms defeated a star-studded field in the $75,000-to-the-winner staying invitational at The Meadows tonight.
Based at Rowsley (just out of Bacchus Marsh), Azzopardi won the race with No Donuts in 2016.
Transferred to Azzopardi by leading NSW trainer Jodie Lord for her Victorian assignment, Just Terms finished too powerfully for ‘new kid on the block’ Here’s Tears – a younger brother of staying supremo Tornado Tears, who unfortunately was scratched from the event.
WATCH: Just Terms (4) powers over the top of her rivals in the Zoom Top.
Just Terms ($3.50F) defeated Here’s Tears ($4.30) – who recently broke the Sandown 715m track record – by three and three-quarter lengths, with Blazing Cartier ($8.60) around three lengths away third in a slick 42.12sec. (Both place-getters are prepared by Robert Britton, who also trains Tornado Tears.)
“She was awesome tonight… She got in the striking position,” Azzopardi said. “She’s a stayer… Any box she can come out of, but she seems to have more luck out of the four.”
Azzopardi was referring to the fact that Just Terms is now undefeated in five starts from the ‘blue’ alley. She also notched her sixth win from her past nine starts.
Owned by Grace Lord, Just Terms (Jun ’17 Barcia Bale x Kerrigan Bale) secured her second ‘black type’ win, having saluted in the G3 Christmas Cheer (720m) at Wentworth Park in late December last year.
Just Terms’ staying prowess is not foreign to Victorian greyhound racing fans. She finished third to Tornado Tears in last year’s G1 Bold Trease (715m) at Sandown and at her only other outing at The Meadows, she was runner-up to Blue Moon Rising in last year’ s G1 Topgun Stayers.
Just Terms has now raced on 44 occasions for 18 wins, with $234,260 in stakes.
