GOLD RUSH!

The word has spread down south that there’s ‘Gold’ up north… And it’s precipitated a mini exodus of some of Victoria’s finest sprinters and stayers.

Our ‘prospectors’ are heading up to Albion Park for tonight’s heats of the Group 1 Gold Bullion (520m) and Group Listed Gold Cup (710m).

In the Gold Bullion, Angela Langton has G1 National Futurity winner Circles Of Dreams (Race 6, Box 4) in Heat 1 (9.04pm) and David Burnett has Snags McKenzie (Race 8, Box 7) in Heat 3 (9.49pm).

Meanwhile, in the Gold Cup, Robert Britton has Blazing Cartier (Race 4, Box 2) in Heat 1 (8.22pm) and Tornado Tears (Race 5, Box 7) in Heat 2 (8.43pm). Britton’s brother, Jeff, also has G1 Hume Cup winner True Detective (Box 4) in Heat 2, while Andrea Dailly has Boom Down (Box 7) in Heat 1.

Tornado Tears, who holds Albion Park’s track record (41.20sec), is in a battle for favouritism with NSW star Just Terms in their Gold Cup heat. The five-time G1 winner is quoted at $2.30 on TAB Fixed Odds, with Just Terms at $2.25F. True Detective is at $4.40.

WATCH: Tornado Tears (3) stride to victory in the 2018 G1 Gold Cup.

Tornado Tears is partial to the Albion Park circuit. He won the 2018 G1 Gold Cup and G3 Superstayers Invitational. And last year, he finished fifth in the Gold Cup and went back-to-back in the Superstayers Invitational.

Local hope and reigning Gold Cup hero Bago Bye Bye ($2.10F) and Boom Down ($2.80) top the betting market in their heat, with Blazing Cartier ($5.50).

Meanwhile, Circle Of Dreams is in commission at $4.40, behind local star Sequana ($2.70F) and Fernando Blaster ($3.20) in her Gold Bullion heat.

And Snags McKenzie is quoted at $8.50, behind NSW megastar Good Odds Harada ($1.90F).
