Shepparton will host three heats of the Group 3 Northern Districts Cup (450m) this evening, with the first two placegetters and two fastest thirds to make it through to Saturday night’s $25,000 to-the-winner final.

This event has a unique criteria, being open only to Victorian-bred greyhounds with:

• No city wins (full stakes)
• Less than $25,000 in prize money
• Had a minimum two starts at Shepparton.

HEAT 1: Race 5, 8.34pm
Looms as a great contest featuring EXTRA SPEED, who has won 10 from 18, and CURSED, which boasts a smart 24.97sec PB at the track.

HEAT 2: Race 6, 8.52pm
An even contest on paper with the pacy ASTON VALKYRIE and the suitably drawn TAURELLO among the main chances.

HEAT 3: Race 7, 9.10pm
The speedy FUEL ‘EM has led in seven of his eight starts, while SHADOW MIST boasts a 50 per cent winning strike rate.
