The magic was strong at the third installment of the 2019 GRV Great Chase on Tuesday, when 52 community group members and their carers gathered at the Geelong Greyhound Racing Club with winning in mind. Even Dazzling Dan the Magician was on hand with a sleeve full of tricks and a big hat to try some greyhound spells.
Honours on the day went to Geelong’s Riverside Community House with $1,200 winnings, which carer Mal said would be decided by the residents. “Last year they wanted a basketball ring, so we got a height adjustable one. That’s the sort of thing they like; activities, equipment and experiences that they choose.”
Riverside has been coming back to the Great Chase for a few years. “The community experience on course is the best part for our guys, they get to catch up with old friends and have the opportunity to take part in an activity that others take for granted” said Mal.
“They’re delighted to catch up with friends from the other groups and love the social aspect of the day out at Geelong.”
With plans to head up to the final on the 23rd of October the Riverside Community House residents have had a taste of greyhound success and won’t be letting it go without a fight!
Members of Estia Health were also in attendance this year, keen to extend their winning streak to three years. Sue from Estia said the best part about the day was “the enjoyment that the residents feel while on course. They love having a bet and remembering when they used to come to the greyhounds all the time.”
Scope Manifold and Scope Shannon Park also had some tricks up their sleeves, taking home $600 and $200 respectively.
