Venom ready to strike at Warragul

Kerry Houlahan says her ultra-consistent sprinter Henessey Venom is perfectly drawn in box eight for the Simon Benson Memorial Grade 5 Final (460m) on Warragul St Leger night.

Henessey Venom, the winner of 16 of his 31 starts, is the fastest qualifier for the $5000 to-the-winner feature after a best of night 25.91s heat victory and boasts three wins and a close second from four assignments in the pink vest.

“He always tries from any box but I think he feels a lot more confident when he’s drawn on the outside,” said Lang Lang-based Houlahan.

“He’s got his box on Saturday and we know he can run quick time; it just depends what happens on the night.

“I’ve got about 13 in work and 30 in the kennels and Henessey Venom is probably at the top of the tree.

“We have put him over a bit more ground but he had a few little issues so we’re just holding him back and not pushing him too hard. He’s still young.”
