Marcello stepped into the limelight on Sunday at Sale when he claimed the $10,000 to-the-winner Sale Sprint Championship for trainer Bill McMahon.
A son on Kc And All and Surfonic and litter brother to the freakish Bernardo, Marcello’s Sale Sprint Championship was his 24th win in his 64 start career.
Despite a field which included Bendigo Cup runner up Time To Talk and two time country cup contender Italian Plastic, owner and breeder Jennifer Gill had confidence a win was on the cards for Marcello.
“When he drew box one, I knew he was in with a good chance because all he had to do was jump cleanly,” Jennifer said.
“He is a 500-metre dog so I knew it would have taken a lot to run him down over the 440.”
Winning at the odds of $14.20, punters didn’t have the same confidence.

Jennifer’s confidence in Marcello’s litter is high and rightly so, the entire litter have put wins on the board.
118 wins and $532,252 in prize money to be exact.
“Every time one of Surfonic’s pups win a race I buy her a roast chicken,” Jennifer said.
That’s 118 roast chickens and counting.
You would be forgiven for thinking Jennifer had reached the peak in her breeding and owning career, but we are wrong. It is just the beginning.
“We have some nice pups coming up and with Bernardo at stud and breeders looking for a son of Kc And All to breed with it is very exciting what the future holds,” Jennifer said.
Bernardo had just 30 starts for 13 wins but it was his second placing to My Redeemer in the 2018 Group 1 Harrison-Dawson that still amazes Jennifer.
“He entered that series after five months off because he hurt his achilles, what he did in that series was great.”
“Bernardo is a movie star and I can see he is already throwing his striking good looks into his pups.”
Jennifer credits the depth of her line to Surf Queen, Surfonic’s mother.
“They are a major producing line that continually produces elite dogs,” Jennifer said.
