Mepunga Rosie ($2.50Fav) has won the first feature event on 2016 RSN Sandown Cup night, the $21,750 Cup Night Stayers (715m).
Punters have packed into Sandown Park despite constant rain for the running of the word’s richest staying race, and the chance to meet colourful AFL identity Brendan Fevola, who is running the Pick-A-Dog-Box game show.
Trained by Jeff Britton, Mepunga Rosie took charge of the race fairly early in proceedings, and eventually won in 42.118sec.
Runner up was Dr. Leonardo, who threw out a late challenge to be beaten by just half a length, with Ryno’s Raider third.
