As Temora’s racecaller so eloquently said, “but he’s on the cusp of canine immortality”, as superstar Simon Told Helen crossed the line victorious in a Million Dollar Chase regional final (457m) at Temora on Saturday night.
Australia’s No. 1 sprinter now proceeds to the MDC semi-finals at Wentworth Park on October 9.
And a semi-final win would give Simon Told Helen a crack at the ‘magical million’ in the world’s richest greyhound race a week later.
Trained by David Burnett, the four-time Group 1 winner is currently TAB’s $8.00 pre-noms favourite for the MDC final (520m) at Wentworth Park on October 16.
In his MDC quarter-final, Simon Told Helen ($1.45F) established a handy break in the middle stages and then held off the fast-finishing bolter Rivergum Road ($101) by three-quarters of a length, with Keenando ($12.00) a further one and a half lengths away third in 26.16sec.
Burnett also had Simon Told Helen’s litter brother Who Told Stevie (5th) and kennelmate Snags McKenzie (7th) engaged in the race, but only the first three placegetters go on to the semi-finals.
