Led by ‘golden boy’ Sennachie, Victoria ‘struck gold’ at Albion Park on Friday night.
Prepared by Steve White, Sennachie was simply sensational and turned the $150,000-to-the-winner Group 1 Gold Bullion (520m) into a one-act affair.
Starting at $3 on TAB Fixed Odds, Sennachie exploded from box five and was in a class of his own defeating NSW litter brothers Good Odds Harada ($4.80) and Feral Franky ($2.50). He had 10.25 lengths to spare over Good Odds Harada, with Feral Franky a further two lengths away third in a sizzling 29.41sec – just outside his own 29.38sec track record.
Sennachie gained automatic entry into the Gold Bullion final courtesy of his G3 Golden Ticket win on Boxing Day at Albion Park. On that occasion, he posted a flying 29.39sec.
A genuine superstar of the sport, Sennachie registered his third G1 win. He also has the G1 Maturity Classic and G1 Brisbane Cup on his ultra-impressive CV.
He has also made Albion Park a ‘second home’ with four group race wins from nine starts on the circuit. He also won the G2 Queensland Derby.
A 10-time group race finalist, Sennachie has also finished runner-up in the G1 Silver Chief and third in the G1 Adelaide Cup, and was a finalist in the G1 Topgun. He’s won 18 races from 32 starts, and has amassed $701,450 in stakes.
White is now eyeing the Australian Cup Carnival and Golden Easter Egg with his champ, and then it’s likely he’ll take up stud duties.
Sennachie’s Victorian counterpart, Snags McKenzie, finished sixth in the Gold Bullion final.
