Boom youngster Get It Gizmo ($12.30) captured the first Group 1 of his career when taking out the TAB Topgun (525m) at The Meadows this evening.
Bred and trained by Harry Manolitsis and owned by the Gizzy’s Gang Syndicate, the exciting young Victorian sprinter beat an outstanding field to claim the $150,000 first prize in what is Australia’s premier invitational greyhound race.
The second youngest Topgun contender at 29 months of age, Get It Gizmo lived up to his outstanding potential despite getting off to a tardy start from Box 2.
Trailing by two lengths in the early stages, a decision by Black Opium (Box 1) to glide away from the rail on the first turn afforded Get It Gizmo a clear passage on her inside, and he took full advantage of the opportunity.
“For a young dog like Get It Gizmo to be chosen to compete in this race is a privilege,” Manolitsis said after the race.
“This is the best eight dogs in the country. He is just going ahead in leaps and bounds and we love him to bits.”
Get It Gizmo scored by three lengths over NSW sensation Feral Franky (Ray Smith), with Whiskey Riot (Anthony Azzopardi) third in 30.08sec.
Get It Gizmo showed his immense talent in Sydney last month when he was the fastest semi-final winner of the Million Dollar Chase series at Wentworth Park, before running third to Good Odds Harada in the final.
The son of Kinloch Brae and Dasha has now had 20 starts for nine wins and earned $242,350 in prize money.
Get It Gizmo now looms as one of the favourites for the TAB Melbourne Cup at Sandown Park, heats of which will be run on November 22.
