Renee Kenyon isn’t abstract when it comes to rating her dog’s performance in the City Country middle distance final in Bendigo last week; “This is at the top.”
Renee’s greyhound Abstract Miss (Dyna Double One x Mulwee Dream) came from way behind in a blistering run to win the $10k winner’s purse in the 660m final after running third in a heat at The Meadows.
Renee, husband Andrew (and ‘the kids when they’re home’), has been a full-time trainer for just over a year at their base in Lara.
This was the biggest win yet for the two-and-a-half-year-old Abstract Miss, but there are signs she’s finding her niche. Her come-from-behind racing pattern has been evident in her four wins from 24 starts.
Renee admits it’s her trademark style.
“She doesn’t come out quick but has a natural ability to go hard just at the right time,” she said.
It appears that longer distances are her fields of dreams, having won two and placed in two in her four starts since stepping up to 595m and beyond.
The family have 13 race dogs in their care at the minute, with two recent litters of six-month olds for possible future greatness.
Renee has “no definite plans at this stage” for Abstract Miss.
Just watch for the dog at the back and wait for it….
