New blaze to hit Meticulous Lodge

Mepunga Blazer has hit Meticulous Lodge and he has breeder, owner and Hall of Fame inductee Barry Smith more than excited about his future.

The son of Australia’s leading sire, Barcia Bale and Mepunga Nicky, retired a winner of 11 races from 22 starts (five minor placings) and $161,630 in prize money with his biggest career win being the 2017 Group One Maturity Classic at The Meadows.

Australia’s premier stud master Paul Westerveld showed immediate interest in Mepunga Blazer following his first city win at Sandown where he stopped the clock in a best of the night 29.23 seconds.

“I have been around a long time and I am confident that he will succeed as a sire. I am really excited about what he can do,” owner and breeder Barry Smith said.

“Mepunga Blazer’s breeding was a huge reason behind Paul’s interest. Both of his parents are group one winners and the line has been successful for 50 years,” Smith said.

Mepunga Blazer’s lines includes; Premier Fantasy, Go Wild Teddy, Brett Lee, the great Temlee and of course Barcia Bale.

“His lines are outstanding, and I don’t think there is a better line going around,” Smith said.

Smith believes that Mepunga Blazer’s speed and his hard-chasing ability is a huge reason to breed from him.

“I already have a couple of broodies waiting to come in season so I can use him. I can use the Mepunga Diva side with him which includes Mepunga Mia and Mepunga Rose so there is hopefully plenty of exciting times ahead.”

Mepunga Blazer will stand at stud for a starting price of $1650 and will likely be available to use from March 2018.
