On Sunday 21 June, one of Australia’s most loved sports and racing identities passed away.
Gary Davies was a pioneer in the sports betting media industry and was an omnipresent figure at race tracks and sporting events throughout his life. His generosity, charisma and kind spirit were hallmarks of his character and all race tracks won’t be the same without him.
His legacy will live on as he has made an indelible mark on wagering, racing and sport in this country.
Gary has been connected with greyhound racing for decades through bookmaking, ownership and as friend to many in the industry. His brother Jeff was a former CEO at Sandown and his son Campbell is currently GM – Marketing and Communications at GRV. He will be sorely missed by many.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at Sandown Greyhound Racing Club at 11am on Tuesday 30 June. No flowers by request. Donations can be made in lieu to the Ileostomy Association of Victoria (http://www.ileostomyvic.org.au/) on the day or by contacting the IAV.
GRV regulates the sport of greyhound racing in the state of Victoria under the Racing Act 1958 (Act), which includes setting standards and ensuring they are met by participants.
