Around $20,000 in prize money will be distributed at Longwood this weekend as the club gears up for a massive double header of coursing on Saturday and Sunday.
Four feature events comprising the Victorian Derby, Victorian Oaks, Longwood Cup and Bert Clark Memorial headline the two days of action.
The Derby and Oaks, open to male and female greyhounds respectively born on or after 1 March, 2016, both boast first prizes of $3,765 (plus a $1000 VicBred bonus), with money paid down to the quarter finalists (top eight) as well as consolation events for puppies defeated in the first two rounds of the Derby and Oaks.
Adding another unique dimension to the weekend will be the appearance of the Greyhound Adoption Program for the purpose of helping foster relationships between GAP representatives and racing participants.
“We will have a GAP presence with their pop-up cafe, with a donation of a gold coin for tea or coffee going directly to the Longwood Coursing Club,” National Coursing Association of Victoria Secretary, Sue Delaney said.
“The Longwood Club will also have tasty and freshly homemade food available all day including Jean Hamilton’s hamburgers, homemade pies, pasties & soups. We’ll also have the best of homemade slices and cakes you could possibly wish for.”
