Ballarat have a big night of racing tonight with the running of their second feature event, the $7,860 Carmichael/Howell Memorial (545m), is Race 6 which is scheduled at 8:38pm. The final has brought together some promising young stayers, so let’s see if I can help steer you into the winner circle. My selections are as follows…
1ST: I like Shima Song (box 5), even from the awkward draw. If she can cross to the rail early I think she will be far too good, provided she gets clear run throughout.
2ND: Main danger is Dyna Irminus (box 2). He was the quickest heat winner sizzling around in 30.85sec, and if he reproduces that he will be very hard to run down. He has drawn well again here, but the concern is his occasional tardiness out of the boxes.
3RD: Astrology (box 4) has been racing consistently without winning recently. I would like to see him back in winning form before I will be confident enough to tip him on top. If the favourites find trouble, he is the one I would like to be on.
4TH: Why Not Sue (box 1) has a beautiful draw but the concern is her record; three wins from 39 starts. She has early speed, which should see her settle in the first three out of the boxes, which will give her the opportunity to run an honest race.
Smaller chances go to It’s A Bird (box 6), Hanging In There (box 7) and Evers Bale (box 8), but they all will need luck from their wide draws.
