GEELONG VIC BRED MAIDEN: Hurunui Hamish Vies for Three in a Row

A rich maiden final at Geelong tonight is among the highlights of another big weekend of greyhound racing in Victoria.

The race I refer to is the $10,710 GRV Vic Bred Maiden Final (460m), which is Race 2 on the card at 7:28pm.

I think it’s a race in three with two major winning chances and one smaller chance. I’m keen on Hurunui Hamish. He isn’t the smoothest of beginners but, with a bit of slow speed drawn to his outside, I think he will still get the clear running he needs early to settle close to the front. He has powerful strength and I think it will see him charge home over the top to win. He gave Shytown Hussler, who is his main danger for mine tonight, a six length start mid-race in their semi-final and ran him down on the line.

Shytown Hussler split very fast (6.52sec) in that run, and if he splits that quickly again he will lead again and will take a lot of running down.

I give a smaller chance to It’s A Flash, who won both his heat and semi in good fashion. Drawn to get an unimpeded passage from Box 8, I expect him to run a terrific race, but I just think he would have to cross in front of his rivals early if he is to win. If there was to be a blowout result it could be either Lektra Danger or Son Of Bekim, but they will both need luck in the first half of the race.

On a big program at Geelong another highlight will be Race 8, a Mixed 3/4 featuring a wonderful field including Group 1 Paws of Thunder winner Asa Flying Spur (Pictured above).
