Edithvale trainer Brendan Dewan (pictured) is targeting Saturday night’s $35,650 Group 3 Vic Bred Maiden Final (525m) at The Meadows with Dewana Dimie.
In 2014, Brendan ran second in the race (Replay) with talented stayer Dewana Lass, who went onto win over $70,000 from 69 starts.
A repeat mating between Cosmic Rumble and Wildcard Lass has produced another litter of exciting greyhounds for the Dewan family, with Dewana Dimie being singled out as possibly the best.
“I rate Dewana Dimie as being the fastest in terms of early pace out of all the pups from both litters,” trainer Dewan explained.
In her first start Dewana Dimie flew out of the boxes wearing the black rug to record her personal best time of 30.04sec at The Meadows (Replay).
In the semi a week later she lead from box one in a very similar manner to win by over six lengths in 30.06sec (Replay).

“I was very impressed with her heat and semi wins. They didn’t come as a shock because she had previously had six half field trials and won every one of them,” he said.
“She is very fast out of the boxes and she also runs her races out very strongly.”
The two litters are well represented at The Meadows on Saturday night with sister Dewana Babe, from the first litter, lining up from box 4 in the Group 1 $145,000 Australian Superstayers (725m) for Bendan’s son, Matthew Dewan.
Dewana Dimie’s future has been bright from the early stages. Brendan, 73, who broke the litter in himself, said she showed ability from the start. As she matures, the strength of the Dewana line suggests she will be tried at the staying ranks.
“In the next 12 months Dewana Dimie will hopefully try the middle distances and then move onto staying races,” he said.
“The first litter run strong 600 and 700 metre races so I don’t see why she won’t take the next step.”
Saturday night she will contest the first of hopefully many, group finals in the Group 3 Vic Bred Maiden Final, where she is jumping from box 4 as $1.70 favourite.
“The way she begun in both the heat and the semi I expect her to lead, and if she does I don’t see anyone running her down,” he said.
“I am wrapped to be in the race; I have been targeting it for about four months with a few from the second litter. Another of my greyhounds, Dewana Special is the first reserve.”
