North-East Wrap: Ready 2 Race Bargain Wins Way into $35,500 Northern Districts Cup Final

To The Galo’s, pictured above in rug three running last in a four-dog final of the 2014 Ready 2 Race Sales at Bendigo last November, was sold later that day for $6,000. He has since won over $18,000 in prize money and will be racing for a $25,000 first prize in Sunday night’s Group Listed Northern Districts Cup Final (450m) at Shepparton, Matt Jackson reports…

Hi and welcome to this week’s edition of the North Eastern Weekly Wrap, which was certainly highlighted with the heats of the Group Listed Northern Districts Cup (450m) on Monday night at Shepparton.

The week kicked off with a program on the straight course at Healesville last Thursday. The most impressive winners of the day were the littermates Enchanted Lass in Race 5 and Gospel Lass in Race 7. They both bounced straight on the lure and dazzled up the straight in very quick time with Enchanted Lass running 16.63 (Replay) and Gospel Lass running 16.69. Both of these girls are very good short course sprinters so you would think the Alisters who train will have some fun over the next few months.

Other good winners on a strong day of racing included Cool Lois in the first who won all the way in 16.99 who broke a run of minor placing with her first win, Bling My Day in Race 6 who came from a fair way off them to sprint home way too strongly but also note the run of runner-up Saahd who had to change course a couple of times early. Low Talker in Race 11 was another terrific win too as he didn’t speak overly smoothly but when balanced up he attacked the line with great purpose.

Friday afternoon we headed into central Victoria to Bendigo and we saw Disco Rain very impressive again, he will feature later in the review too, after his wonderful first up win a week prior, he stepped up to the 500 this time but took it all in his stride. Jumping from Box 6 he pinged the lids to land clear of his rivals and he never gave them a look in winning easily in fast time. Not many break 28sec at Bendigo but he did running 27.96. He is a star greyhound and will be winning many more races. Here is Disco Rain scoring by a space (Replay).

Other terrific winners on the card included Rosie Rocks in Race 2 making it a winning hat-trick leading all the way in the Restricted Win Final. The flying Jackie Baxter in Race 6 who was too slick for her rivals in good time and in the last Octagon Girl bounced straight to the lead and won easily in 24.02.

Monday night we headed to Shepparton where the highlights were the three heats of the Northern Districts Cup. Heat One looked a strong race on paper and it played out that way. All Courage (6) started favourite on the back of some strong recent runs. A noted slow beginner, this was no exception and he missed the start slightly. Next to him in Box 7 To The Galo’s (7) came up flying to sail straight to the front ahead of Zoe (1). There was a fall midrace which halted the momentum of All Courage as he was just starting to make his move so it left To The Galo’s a long way in front and he kept running to win really well running the slick time of 25.21. All Courage got balanced up in the straight to fly home and grab 2nd in front of a tiring Zoe (Replay).

Heat Two seemingly looked a match race between Disco Rain (2) and Soda Lad (3). Disco Rain had been highly impressive at his two runs back from a spell but this was certainly his hardest test. Starting from Box 2 he jumped fast and was able to work to the front at the first corner. From there he was never headed running the fastest heat time of 25.16 where he defeated both Aston Gatum (1) and Soda Lad (3), who just couldn’t bridge back the margin in the fast run race (Replay).

The third and final heat was Race 7 and it looked the hardest race on paper. Starting favourite was Kraken Flash (8), who walked out of the boxes and couldn’t go at all early and never figured at all. Miss Suzie Que (1), who’d bombed the start at Shepp a week prior jumped beautifully to lead ahead of Daphne’s Party (3) and Cosmic Lily (7), coming to the turn it looked as if Daphne’s Party might run straight past Miss Suzie Que but too her credit she dug in, fought hard and held her at bay for a strong win in what was the slowest heat time (Replay).

Other impressive winners Monday night were Fine Future in Race 2, who was slow out but still ran good time in winning strongly, Reckless Brown in Race 8, who appreciated getting clear air early and won easily as a short priced favourite and also Akando in Race 10, who put it all together with a brilliant win in really quick fashion.
